HagonoyChromolaena odorata

a weed belonging to the Asteraceae family

which has now become common in the Philippines since

its introduction from South America.

The weed is significant to farmers because it has no economical use whatsoever. It grows under all conditions and is avoided by all livestock. It causes diarrhea and death in bovine species and must be manually removed.

The plant is said to have some herbal use such as a blood clotting agent on open wounds and some skin infections are possibly controlled by it's application. These uses are of limited commercial value and the harm this plant does to croplands outweighs any possible benefit.
