Why do cats move their kittens?

Mother cats will start moving their kittens when they think that their babies are in danger. This is usually the case when the owners allow their guests or their children to pick up the newborns. This is not something that should be allowed for at least a couple of weeks although they are so cute! The mother cat will drag them to a dark place somewhere least expected like the corner of a closet or a basement, she will carry them one by one in her mouth to a safer place then where they were before.
