Why did the fakir put the curse on the paw in the monkeys paw?

I think, the reason why did the fakir put a spell or curse on the paw was that he wanted to show and let the people know that they should not mess with fate. We used to know that people are greedy and selfish. Sometimes, people are tempted to any material and earthly things and with that, they used to grab the opportunity or even misuse it in order to satisfy their desire. For me, it is not right to desire any of those things for it will just lose and we cannot bring it to the next life. The real intention of the fakir was that a person should think first of what he or she want to wish and think wisely whether are there persons who ill be involved by these. Lastly, the best thing to do is to be contented of what you have and just be happy of it for the true happiness is that you live healthy and you are still alive.
