Mount Everest climbers in the 1950Õs wore aviator style-goggles with darkened lenses, baggy and cotton-blend outer clothing with several inner layers, boots with insulation, and steel crampons. They also brought along external frame aluminum packs with canvas tents, nylon-shell sleeping bags, bulky radio communication sets, notebooks and pens, rangefinder cameras, steel ice axes, and tinned food.
