Where were the first unions organized?

The earliest trade unions are really rather mysterious because we have little information about them. We know that there were laws against trade unions in Europe in the 15th century.

The earliest effective union is probably the The Mechanics' Union Trade Association, which was organized in Philadelphia in 1827.
