Who found Montreal French or Dutch?

Montreal was founded by the French. The city was established in 1642 by French settlers led by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, who sought to create a mission and trading post called Ville-Marie. The Dutch were active in North America around the same period, particularly in places like New Amsterdam (now New York City), but did not found Montreal.
