How many people on earth have no phone or refrigerator?

I had heard 1/2 of the people in China have never used a phone. I find that hard to believe. Does anyone have any data to support that? I have visited villages in Panama that have 1 pay phone for the whole village. Also millions, if not billions shop daily for food because they do not have a refrigerator. What amount of people though?
