What does IP mean in security cameras?

IP stands for internet Protocol (just like IP Address, etc). In other Words - if you see a security camera that is marked as an IP Camera, it means that that camera can be hooked up to and viewed on a network.

Most IP security cameras have their own web server, which means that you can plug it into a standard router or switch, assign it an IP Address on that network, and view it from Internet Explorer or other specific software meant to view and record IP cameras.
