The point farthest from the Earth's centre is widely reported to be the summit of Chimborazo at 6,384.4 km (3,967.1 mi). This is due to the Earth being an oblate spheroid rather than a perfect sphere - its a squashed sphere. The distance from the equator to the earths centre is greater than the distance between the poles and the centre.
Mount Everest is the traditional answer, but that is true only if you measure from sea level.

If you measure from the centre of the Earth (or if you assume a a perfect sphere) then there are a number of mountains in both Africa and S America which are taller.
