What is the difference between diffusuion and omosis?

Diffusion is the spreading out of a substance from a region where it is in higher concentration to one where it is in lower concentration. Osmosis is the special case of diffusion where the process takes place through a semi-permeable membrane, i.e. one which allows only some substances through it.
