We use fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity. To do this, we burn the fuel, and this releases carbon dioxide (CO2). We can reduce our use if countries move to renewable energy (solar, wind, water, hydro, tidal and wave, geothermal, ocean thermal, biomass, biofuel and hydrogen). In our personal lives we can reduce our use by:
- Reducing our electricity use, turning lights and equipment off completely when not in use.
- Reducing our driving and moving to walking, cycling and public transport
- Recycling paper, glass, plastic and metals, as well as refusing plastic bags and packaging will save energy use in industry.
