Why does faintly macabre remain in prison?

Faintly Macabre remains in prison because she is the "Which" responsible for assigning princesses who take over the Kingdom of Wisdom. Due to her importance to the functioning of the kingdom and her knowledge of how to find new princesses, she is kept in prison to ensure the stability of the kingdom, even though she is not actually a criminal.
