Can the Water Department shut off your water if you were one day late paying your bill?

Every water department has different rules.

But technically with most water departments across the US, if you do not pay by the date given on your water bill, yes, the water department can shut off service. However, if you call them and let them know when you will pay (especially if only 1 day late), they might make arrangements with you. The key is to not expect them to read your mind--call and communicate.
