You do the same thing to both sides. For example, 5/10 simplified is 1/2 because you divided by five on both sides. 5 goes in to five once and goes into 10 twice. Another example is 30/90. That is 1/3 because 30 goes into itself once and 30 goes into 90 three times. One more example is 4/10. Since 4 does not go in to 10 evenly, you would divide by 2. So, 4/10 simplified is 2/5.
