The plains Indians were decimated by disease, killed, blended into the white culture, or settled on reservations. They had the best light horse cavalry in the world. They could have created their own nation in the Western Part of the United States. Instead, they exhausted themselves fighting each other which made them easy prey for the United States cavalry.
