What is presidential rule?

Presidential rule, also known as President's Rule, refers to a constitutional provision in India that allows the central government to take direct control of a state when the state government is unable to function according to the provisions of the Constitution. This can occur due to political instability, failure to maintain Law and Order, or the breakdown of the constitutional machinery. Under this rule, the state's legislative assembly can be dissolved, and the central government appoints a governor to oversee the administration.
