What is the meaning of life according to Douglas Adams?

42 is not actually the answer to "what is the meaning of life?"

It is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything (i.e. universal existence), but the question itself was somehow misplaced. Later, it is suggested to have been "What do you get if you multiply six by nine?" (which of course does not equate)
