What is the quarting act?

The Quartering Act, enacted by the British Parliament in 1765, required American colonists to provide housing, food, and other supplies to British soldiers stationed in the colonies. This law was part of a series of measures that intensified colonial resentment toward British rule, as many colonists viewed it as an infringement on their rights and liberties. The act was later revised in 1774 as part of the Intolerable Acts, further escalating tensions that led to the American Revolution.
