Is macaroni a Italian or American?

The origin of macaroni is not completely certain. There are cases of it originating from China, the Etruscans, Greece, Rome, and the Arabs.

Macaroni pasta is typical in many westernized-Chinese cuisines and in Americana cuisine (namely "macaroni and cheese"). It is also sometimes used in Italian cuisine.
