What was the British perspective on the Proclamation of 1763?

In the Proclamation of 1763, King George III sold the land west of the Allegheny Mountains to Quebec. It did not matter that King George II had already sold the same land to Pennsylvania and Virginia. The British had extremely little respect for the settlers living in Ohio. That was in spite of the fact that American militias had run the French and Indians out of that area in the war and would ignore the Proclamation. So, the British idea was they only needed to make a proclamation and the Americans would obey it. The American idea was the British were free to run their mouths. We had fought and conquered that land, and we had paid for it. It was ours.
