What is the external conflict of of the story marigolds?

The conflict in the book Star Girl is that Star girl is new and different people do not understand her therefor most people ignore her, Leo ends up liking star girl but wants to be "popular' and not ignored by his friends, but he is so he trys to not be friends with star which makes him very unhappy.
