Where did goutweed come from?

Goutweed, also known as Aegopodium podagraria, is native to Europe and parts of Asia. It was introduced to North America in the 19th century as an ornamental ground cover and for its edible leaves. Due to its aggressive growth habit, it has become invasive in many areas, spreading rapidly and displacing native vegetation.
