What is erythema infectious?

Erythema infectiOSum, commonly known as fifth disease, is a viral infection caused by human parvovirus B19. It primarily affects children and is characterized by a distinctive "slapped cheek" rash, along with mild flu-like symptoms. The infection is usually mild and self-limiting but can cause complications in individuals with weakened immune systems or certain blood disorders. Transmission occurs through respiratory droplets or direct contact with infected individuals.
