How do you pop the balloon on Animal Crossing City Folk?

In the original Animal Crossing, you have to follow the balloon, keeping it onscreen until it gets caught in a tree. You can then shake the present loose. In Wild World and City Folk, the player must purchase a slingshot and shoot the balloon down to retrieve the present.
