it means the printer cover can't open. take the lid off, at the front of the printer reach in from the side (there's a square cut out) and move the hinged bits of metal. Now try and lift the main print head assembly a little to get it started. Turn the printer back on and give it a second to settle, then press the open button. The final thing to check is whether the thermal head is attached properly to the hinged thermal head assembly. There are two posts with circlips on the end that firmly bind the two. looking straight into the top of the printer, check whether the circlips are visible and on the correct (top) side of the metal sheet. if they are, fine, if not, manipulate the thermal head to move the circlips through the wider part of the hole and then back to the smaller part (being VERY careful not to touch the actual print head - there are some bits at the side you can grip it by)
