How do cochlea help us hear?

The cochlea, a spiral-shaped structure in the inner ear, plays a crucial role in hearing by converting sound vibrations into electrical signals. When sound waves enter the cochlea, they cause fluid inside it to move, which in turn stimulates tiny hair cells along the basilar membrane. These hair cells convert the mechanical movement into electrical impulses that are transmitted to the brain via the auditory nerve. The brain then interprets these signals as sound, allowing us to perceive and understand auditory information.
