You will need to apply for a program that has been certified by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. It will not be hard for you to find a program that has been certified by this commission. This is because there are more than three hundred programs available for you to choose from. Even if you are not eligible to join some of the programs, there is no doubt that you will be eligible for at least one certified dental assistant program. In order to be able to take part in such a program, you will need to have your high school diploma or your GED. In addition, you need to have some type of science coursework in your background. If you are not able to be a part of a certified dental assistant program full time, you might be able to be a part time student. You can even be a full time student by taking advantage of night classes.

After you have been accepted into the program of your choice, you need to be prepared for heavy work that will probably last a year. This class will require you to take part in laboratory work, classroom work, and even work within a dental office or a clinic. All of this gives you the experience that is needed to perform the job properly. After you have completed the program, you will need to take the dental assisting certification exam that will be given by the Dental Assisting National Board. In over thirty states, you need to pass this exam in order to be recognized as a certified dental assistant. Although it is not required in some states, the certification increases the amount of money that you could possibly earn.
