In what country did the Teletubbies Orginate?

My best guess is on an extraterrestrial planet. The Teletubbies characters (Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po) first appeared on TV in England. But even the Teletubbies I mentioned in the parentheses may have been loosely adapted from entities among a species of extraterrestrials, perhaps even with their own show. In my abstract sense, Teletubbies ARE real.
