Being Gothic is a form of self expression as defined by the way one dresses, the music they listen to, and what they think about themselves and the world around them.
Gothic appears to be about death, blackness, darkness, doom and gloom.
It may be a stereotype but people tend to wear black to express sadness such as when they attend a funeral, to show outwardly their feelings about losing a family member or friend.
Gothic maybe a cover for depression that spills out of the soul into the day to day life of a struggling young person. In that sense it could be bad if the young person does not talk to someone about their feelings or seek help for their depression.
The gothic's needs can often be ignored if they are lumped into a group that seems to enjoy death and blackness. Much as the hippies of the 1960's were ignored by their parents and authorities as crazies because of their dress and conduct.
