How much of the earths water is unusable?

Approximately 97% of the Earth's water is saltwater found in oceans, making it unsuitable for direct human consumption or agricultural use. Of the remaining 3% that is freshwater, a significant portion is trapped in glaciers and ice caps, while much of the accessible freshwater is found in rivers, lakes, and underground aquifers. Consequently, only a small fraction of the Earth's total water—about 1% of all water—is readily available for human use.
