There are a number of possible reasons that soda doesn't taste good anymore; including, but not limited to:
- For me, anymore, would mean from the 'old days' to today. I believe that the manufacturers have reduced the amount of carbon dioxide that they use. When I first started drinking sodas, the fizz was so strong it would burn your tongue unless you gave it a minute for some to evaporate. One of the biggest changes in soft drinks over the period that I have been drinking them is the container; glass bottles held the fizz better than plastic. The manufacturers put less fizz in to start with and more fizz evaporates while the bottle is on the shelf.
- Our body chemistry changes over time; not just from childhood to adulthood, but continuously. It's easier to see that something that tasted wonderful to us at age seven, may not be as wonderful at twenty seven. But changes don't stop when we reach adulthood, they are ongoing.
- Ingredients change; even soft drinks made with the exact same ingredients over the decades, the ingredients themselves change. An example of this is the tomato you buy at the store; it looks like a tomato but tastes little like a tomato. If you want to taste a real tomato today, you need to grow them yourself or hope that a neighbor does. The tomato is an extreme example but there are a number of foods that have changed over the decades that I have been eating them. The ingredients in soft drinks have undergone this type of changes too. Manufacturers have also changed the chemical flavorings and preservatives over time, which may alter the flavor of the finished product.
