Why everyone wanted to hide the identity of Jesus's wife?

It was suggested by Dan Brown in his very popular novel "The da Vinci Code" that not only did Jesus have a wife, but he had at least one child as well, and he has living descendants, which if true would cast a lot of Christian theology in a different light, and could be very disturbing to some people who have a dogmatic view of theology. This is, in any event, highly speculative and certainly not proven. I cannot say for certain that Jesus had a wife, and if he didn't, there would be no reason for anyone to hide the identity of a non-existent person who has no identity.
