we had mechanical typewriter and the more modern electrical ones.

The mechanical had a steel key wich would press in the paper the letter desired and the electrical came with more advances such as a ball with the characters and numbers that will rotate enabling for a faster writing.

Word programs and computers have made typewriters obsolete but you still can see the electrical ones in lawyers office to fill out an special legal document.
