The Peterloo Massacre of 1819, where cavalry charged into a crowd of peaceful protesters in Manchester, did not achieve its immediate goals, as the protesters were demanding political reform and greater representation. However, it galvanized public opinion against the government and highlighted the need for reform, eventually leading to significant changes, such as the Reform Acts of the 1830s and 1840s.
