What does saucy mean?

Saucy means cheeky but in a pleasant way. It may have to do with the fact that sauces are very often spicy, and we do talk about "the spice of life". We also say that "variety is the spice of life". It is the spice in a sauce which makes it different and interesting. A saucy child is one who is interesting, energetic and full of life.
