There are 2 ways to go to medical school while in the military. First is the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). This is essentially like a Military Academy for Doctors. You apply exactly the same as any US medical school, and if accepted your are commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the Army or Air Force or an Ensign in the Navy. You are on Active duty and going to medical school is your regular job. You are paid as a military officer and all school requirements are free. Once you comlete medical school and need to serve 7 years on Active Duty plus any residency training you may do. The second way is to apply for a military scholarship. This works by applying for the program while applying to medical schools. If you are accepted to a school, the military will reimburse your expenses for school (tuition, books, lab fees) and provide a monthly stipend to help live on (like $900 a month). You are in the a 2nd Lt or Ensign in the reserves and once you finish medical school you are brought on to Active Duty for 4-6 years.
