What is job shop production?

One out of four production types. Products are running through various manufacturing processes according to customer’s specifications. Not all products go through the same path (area in the factory) of manufacturing. Usually low quantity is produced. Good for small-medium manufacturers. Basically, it allows flexibility in terms of switching between machines, methods, handling problems in production. This kind of production can be adjusted for several products that are highly customized. Order peaks are easy to handle – it is possible, for example, to add extra shift for a bottle neck machine. However, this production is expensive, requires complex control of production and materials and is suitable only for low quantity.
