What is the process of becoming a veterinarian starting with high school?

Apply to and be accepted at an accredited undergraduate college that offers either a dedicated pre-veterinary medicine program (not just pre-medicine, which is focused on getting aspiring doctors into medical school and is very different from pre-vet med) or a school that offers all the pre-requisite courses required by the veterinary colleges you are interested in. Successfully complete the pre-requisite courses, take the GRE, accumulate hours of animal experience and veterinary experience either by shadowing a veterinarian or working under the direction of a veterinarian, find 2-3 veterinariasn to write letters of recommendation for you and then apply to vet school via the VMCAS. After being accepted into a veterinary college you will study for 4 years, learning about a variety of species. During your final year of vet school you will need to take the NAVLE (national board exam), pass it, then take and pass the state licensing exam of the state you wish to practice in. You should also take the federal accreditation course and be accredited by USDA APHIS VS to give rabies vaccines, write export certificates and perform TB and brucellosis testing. After graduating from vet school with a DVM or VMD, passing national boards and getting your state license, you are ready to practice veterinary medicine.
