Why do stroke victims tend to cry without reason?

Emotional lability, or pseudobulbar affect, often seen in stroke victims, is characterized by sudden and uncontrollable outbursts of crying or laughing. This can occur due to damage in the brain that affects emotional regulation. The person may not actually be sad or happy, but their brain's ability to control emotions is disrupted, leading to inappropriate expressions of emotion.
