The introduction of the Asian mongoose (Herpestes
Javanicus) to various regions, such as the Caribbean and Hawaii, was primarily intentional. It was brought in during the 19th century to control rat populations in sugarcane fields and other agricultural areas. However, the introduction had unintended ecological consequences, as mongooses became invasive, preying on native wildlife and disrupting local ecosystems.
