What does it mean when you cough up red mucus?

, I have been up green THICK yellow mucus, and its nasty, I want to know how to get rid if this sickness so if you can please answer my question immediately

that mucus comes from your nose and down your throat...when you start coughing it up that's when you know its in your chest..some medication and simply coughing it up and out will make it better... if you smoke then your just setting yourself up for failure..
