They were used as teaching tools in small family groups and were often manipulated (performed) by the older members of the family. Grandmother's and Grandfather's would share personal stories of their youth, bravery and honor in order to hand down the legends of their family history.

Puppets were not at all like we see today instead, they were crafted from animal hides to have the outline and shape of a person, animal or object. These were known as shadow puppets. They could be performed against a wall with tall moving shadows or, indoors with a bright lantern against the linens much like our movie screens today. Either way, was a treat for families and provided a special bonding time while being educational and traditional.

Today, we continue these teachings and entertainment forms though not nearly as personal as in your living room by your grandparents, instead they are still in your home but performed by professional Puppeteers.
