The oldest of the four chaplains who are remembered for their heroism during World War II is Rabbi Alexander D. Goode. Born on May 10, 1911, he was one of the four chaplains who perished when the USS Dorchester was sunk by a German U-boat in 1943. The other chaplains included Father John P. Washington, Father George L. Fox, and Reverend Clark V. Poling, who were younger than Goode.
