To type a fada on an ipad, first ensure that you have the Irish keyboard enabled. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard, and select Irish. Once added, switch to the Irish keyboard by tapping the globe icon on the keyboard. You can then type fadas by holding down the vowel you want to accent; a pop-up will appear with options to select the accented version.
