No points if you have insurance and just failed to put it in the car, there is however a $25 dollar fee for failing to carry insurance. If on the other hand you do not have insurance on the vehicle you could be fined up to $500 dollars or spend a year in jail. You could receive 2 points off if a judge where to interpet it as a moving violation under Michigan traffic law but in most cases no points are awarded.
