How do you get the rank and pinion out of the steering collum?

The rack and pinion is attached to the far end of the steering column from the steering wheel. It normally in or just below the engine compartment.

Depending on your car this can be enormously complicated and difficult or quite easy. I recommend you get a copy of a proper repair manual for your car.
