What does Principal Software Engineer title usually mean?

The company where I work has following structure

• Intern - Fresh Grads
• Junior Software Engineer after 3-6 months of internship
• Software Engineer 1-2 Years of experience
• Senior Software Engineer - promoted after 4+ years from Engineer
• Principal Software Engineer - promoted when 6+ years experience, generally Team Leader
