How long did it take to build the Eurostar tunnel?

The Word 'chunnel' was a media generated Word in the 1980's and is no longer used. It was an amalgamation of 'channel' and 'tunnel'. Work on the Channel Tunnel started in 1988 and the first trains went through the tunnel in 1994. It is the longest undersea tunnel in the world although not the longest tunnel overall.
