There are multiple families in East of Eden, yet two of them are the most prominent.
The Trask family, which includes Cal, Aron, Charles, and Adam, seems to hold some of the book's main themes and plotlines. Most of the second half of the novel is about the Trasks.
However, the Hamiltons, which includes Samuel, Liza and all their children, are another important family.
