What Middle Eastern country that lies between Iraq and Washington used to be called Persia?

The question as written makes no sense. Almost all of the Middle East lies between Iraq and Washington. Some countries include Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, and Palestine. However, Iran, the answer to the second part is expressly NOT one of the countries that lies between Iraq and Washington.

As for the modern country that used to be called Persia, this would be Iran.
